FOR THE 2011-12 SCHOOL YEAR

One Call Now - Online Parent Contact Information Form - New * Dec 2011

Registration for new students in grades K-6 for all elementary schools will be held on TUESDAY, AUGUST 23, 2011 between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  All students who have not attended the Gwinn Area Community Schools before should register at the school in their area according to the following locations:

All new K-6 elementary students of the Gwinn Area, except those living in the Skandia and Sawyer areas, should register at the Gilbert Elementary School located at 250 W. Iron Street in Gwinn.  For more information, please call the Gilbert School at 346-5726.

All new K-6 elementary students living in the Skandia and Sawyer areas should register at the KI Sawyer Elementary School located at 411 Scorpion on the former KI Sawyer Air Force Base.  For more information, please call the Sawyer School at 346-5567.

A child entering a Michigan school for the first time must submit an immunization record on the day of registration.  Michigan laws also require the immunization record showing the month, day, and year of all shots against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, rubella (German measles), mumps, and poliomyelitis.  At least four doses of DPT and three doses of polio vaccine are required; and, if a dose was not received on or after the fourth birthday, a booster dose at school entry is necessary.  Two MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) received after the first birthday are necessary, with one of the doses at or after fifteen months of age.  If the child has not been immunized because of religious convictions or other objections to immunization, a statement to that effect, signed by a parent or guardian, must be presented at the time of registration.  A parent or guardian may request that the local health department give the required protective injections and diagnostic tests.

A physical examination is strongly recommended, BUT IS NOT REQUIRED, for each student entering the school district for the first time.

Children entering a Michigan school for the first time must be five (5) years old on or before December 1, 2011.  A birth certificate must be presented to verify this age at the time of registration.

REGISTRATION FOR NEW 7-8 GRADE STUDENTS

FOR THE 2011-12 SCHOOL YEAR

Registration for new students in grades 7-8 is available by appointment only. GMS is implementing a new parent/school contract for the upcoming school year.  The contract outlines exactly what you can expect from GMS, and what we expect and need from you to make it a great year.

In order for students to receive their class schedule, students and parents will need to attend one of the informational meetings where we will review the parent/school contract and answer any questions.  Once the contract is signed by a parent/guardian and student, the student can receive their schedule.

The meeting dates are as follows:  Monday, August 29, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafetorium; Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library; or Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafetorium.

Parents/Students only need to attend ONE meeting.  Schedules will not be issued until the parent/school contract is reviewed and signed by all.
